United States of America (USA)
United States of America is one of the
most popular countries in the world. It is also known as US and America. United
States consists of 50 states making it a large country. Washington DC is the
capital city of US. United States is the most advanced nation in the world. It
is famous for its varied landscape, wildlife, tourism, entertainment which
includes TV and films, diversity, education, technology and military might. All
these things have made America a super power in the world.
US were ruled by the British until
1776. The American Revolutionary War was one of the successful wars against the
British colonial rule. American people formed the philosophy that the government
rests on the will of the people. It was 4th July 1776 when the
Second Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence which declares
that all humans are created equal in their rights and the Thirteen Colonies
were independent states and swears no loyalty to the Great Britain and the
British Crown. Americans believed that humanity had equal rights and the
British rulers failed in the protection of those rights. In 1781, Britain
recognized the independence and sovereignty of United States after a defeat at
Yorktown. That was the beginning for United States of America to start its
never ending rise and rule the world in a fully diverse fashion. After the
independence, US faced some civil wars due to the status of slavery. But after some
time, US managed to come out of that period.
In the early years of World War I, US
remained neutral until 1917 when it jumped into the war as associate power with
the Allies of World War I. After the World War I, America faced the Great Depression
when Wall Street crashed in 1929. It was the largest financial crisis in the 20th
century. The world suffered from this
crash and panic for the next decade. Wall Street crash had major implications
on US and rest of the world. Many blamed the commercial banks for this financial
crisis and some blamed abuses by utility holding companies which contributed in
the Great Depression. This economic crisis severely affected the Europe and the
remaining world.
In the World War II, again US was neutral
in the in the early hours but later joined in. Germany was successfully conquering
the continental Europe under Adolf Hitler. United States started supplying material
to the Allied forces in 1941. US was hit a by surprise attack by the Japanese
on Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941. Japanese military referred to
the attack as “Operation Z”. The attack on Pearl Harbor caused heavy and considerable
damage to the US navy ships and the dock itself. This attack led the US to
enter into the World War II arena. Japan wanted to take the precautionary action
against US to keep it away from interference in the South East Asia. US called
for a formal declaration of war on Japan and the Congress approved for it. However,
on December 11th, Germany and Italy declared a war on the United
States and the congress also issued the declaration of war against Germany and
Italy on the same day. The US entered the World War II as the stage was
perfectly set for it. In the period of War, the US was also referred as one of the
four Sheriffs (Four Policemen) which included the United States, United
Kingdom, Soviet Union and China.
In 1945, the world witnessed the wrath
of a nuclear bomb which was never heard of in the entire history of mankind. On
August 6 United States dropped the first nuclear bomb in a B-29 bomber on the
Japanese city of Hiroshima. The explosion of the bomb was so severe that it almost
destroyed the 90% of the city and killed almost 80,000 people immediately. Hundreds
of people died following the radiations and other side effects of nuclear
explosion. Three days later, US B-29 bomber again dropped a nuclear bomb, this
time on the city of Nagasaki which killed around 40,000 people. This led to the
unconditional surrender of the Japanese in the World War II on August 15th
observing the shocking power of the atomic bomb. The after effects of the
atomic bombs remained for a long time and thousands suffered from it. This brought
the World War II to its end.
After the end of World War II, the
United States was involved in a power struggle against the Soviet Union. That period of struggle is popularly known as
the Cold War era. Both countries had very strong military and were involved in
a never ending hunt of power and world dominance. However, after pushing
Soviets out of the Afghanistan in the 1980s, the US came victorious by
defeating the Soviet Union in the Cold War. In the 1990s US became the most influential
and powerful country in the world. The United States of America continued to rise
and fly high in the skies. US became an undisputed leader in the world.
In 2001, USA saw another major event
in its history. The World Trade Center, twin towers were hit by two planes
bringing down both towers to ashes. Many people died in this terrorist
attack. US blamed Al Qaeda and Osama bin
Laden for this attack. Soon, US initiated the “war on terror” and attacked
Afghanistan. US led NATO forces entered Afghanistan and toppled the Taliban
government. The War on Terror had a noteworthy impact on the entire world
especially the Asian countries. US forces also invaded Iraq and persecuted
Saddam Hussain the Iraqi President of that time by holding him responsible for
trying to produce weapons of mass destruction. Later, the US led forces also marched
into Libya to overthrow the dictator Muammer Gaddafi out of the scene. The crisis
in Syria also insisted on United States to enter in it. The war on terror is
still going on and there seems no end to it. The United States have shown great
military muscle over the years.
America is a great country and over
the years it has shown why it is the leader in the world. Most advanced
universities in the world are located in US such as Stanford University,
Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT). The United
States of America has shown a tremendous growth in the technology sector. American
led by Neil Armstrong were the first people to land on the moon. The famous
space research organization NASA invests millions of dollar on space
discoveries and is the leading space agency in the world. The computer and tech
industry has seen a marvelous growth and many companies such as Google,
Microsoft, Apple and Facebook are ruling the world and shriveled the world into
the global village by reducing the geographical barriers. This list of richest
people of the world always includes the name of Americans, for instance Bill
Gates, the founder of Microsoft and the most admired and legendary personality.
Not only him, but the late Steve Jobs the founder of world’s biggest company
Apple is also greatly admired for his revolutionary works.
There is no doubt that the Americans
are great people and have revolutionized the world by their genius innovative
style of work. US have the habit of producing great brains. United States of
America have the power to change the world in a constructive way and should
assist in bringing peace and stability in the chaotic and frenzied world.
