Saudi Arabia and Pakistan relationships


Saudi Arabia is Pakistan’s one of the closest and friendliest state in the world. Pakistanis respect Saudi Arabia because the most holy cities of Muslim worlds Makkah and Madina, are located there. Due to the religious significance Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are very close to each other. Saudi Arabia was one of the first countries to recognize Pakistan as an independent state. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are also members of OIC.

Throughout the history, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have shared brotherly relations. Saudi Arabia supports Pakistan on all diplomatic issues. During all the hard times, Saudi Arabia have backed Pakistan at diplomatic levels and also financially.  In all the wars, Saudi Arabia helped Pakistan to come out of the crisis.  It is also the largest supplier of petroleum products to Pakistan. Thousands of people from Pakistan are working in Saudi Arabia and are a big source of remittance. Lyallpur the third largest city of Pakistan famous for its textile industry was named Faisalabad after the then Saudi King Shah Faisal.

Saudi Arabia has provided great funding and financial aid to the Pakistan government to overcome the domestic problems. Saudi Kingdom is one of the greatest ally of Pakistan in the world.

On the other hand, Pakistan is the only Muslim nuclear power in the world, it has a large military. Pakistan assists Saudi Arabia by training, providing military equipment and sending troops in the kingdom.  Pakistani troops have been stationed in Saudi Arabia. In 1979, Pakistani commandos were the ones who ended the operation at Masjid al Haram and controlled the situation.

When Pakistan was declared a nuclear power in 1998, many sanctions were thrown on Pakistan by the world. It was Saudi Arabia which helped Pakistan in that phase.  It is said that Saudi Arabia was the only country which was completely taken into confidence before performing nuclear tests.

In the present times, the Arab world is facing a lot of crisis. Saudi Arabia demanded for deployment of Pakistani troops. However Pakistan remained neutral in the current issue. But Pakistan has promised to protect the territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia.  The former Army Chief of Pakistan is leading a multination Muslim army head quartered in Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share a rich history. Both countries have helped each other over the years. Pakistan vows to protect the holy sites. According to surveys, majority of the Pakistanis view Saudi Arabia as a favorable country.  Both countries see each other as valuable ally and will continue to work together to enhance bilateral relations.
